Torrent Dvdrip

A file with the DVDRIP file extension is a Ripped DVD file. Some DVD ripping software might use this file extension to save videos they've ripped (copied) to a computer.

However, not all files that are ripped will have the DVDRIP file extension. Instead, a ripped DVD will usually be saved in a video format like AVI or MP4, or even ISO.

Some videos downloaded through a torrent might be titled something like 'Movie.DVDRip' to indicate that the video was ripped to a computer before being shared. However, the format of the movie is often different (an MP4, MKV, etc.), and is usually indicated by the file extension, like 'Movie.DVDRip.avi' if it's an AVI file.

How to Open a DVDRIP File

You should be able to play a DVDRIP file with software like Full Player and VLC media player. Other video players that support similar video formats may work with DVDRIP files, too.

Wondershare DVD Creator and WinAVI Video Converter can open DVDRIP files as well, but that's only useful if you're wanting to convert them to a different video format. In the next section below is some more information on converting DVDRIP files.

If your file is truly a .DVDRIP file (e.g. it's not an MP4 file that's called Movie.DVDRip.mp4), you might not be able to open it with any other program except for the one that created it. This is because the DVD ripping software that made it is probably the same one that needs to open it in order to convert it or burn it to a disc. However, most 'DVDRIP' files are really MP4s, AVIs, MKVs, etc.

If you find that an application on your PC does try to open the DVDRIP file but it's the wrong application or if you would rather have another installed program open DVDRIP files, change the default program for that specific file extension in Windows.

How to Convert a DVDRIP File

The two DVDRIP converters mentioned above are good choices if you need to convert a DVDRIP file. Another option is to use Full Player - it's not only a DVDRIP player but also a DVD ripper and video converter.

A free video converter like Freemake Video Converter can convert video files to other formats, too, like MP4, AVI, MKV, and many others. Even though Freemake Video Converter doesn't open files with the .DVDRIP file extension, you might be able to rename the file to a supported format, like MP4, so that the program will recognize it and open it.

Keep in mind what's mentioned above about torrents - most of them will end up being in a format that's compatible with the majority of video converters, and will only appear to have the .DVDRIP file extension.
